TikTok Removed 4.8 Million Nigerian Videos in Q1 2026 as AI Moderation Expands
TikTok removed more than 4.8 million videos uploaded from Nigeria during the first quarter of 2026 as the platform continued to strengthen its content moderation and safety efforts.
According to TikTok’s latest Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, the removed videos represented just 0.6% of all content uploaded by Nigerian users between January and March 2026. The company said 99.8% of the violating videos were detected and removed proactively before they were reported, while 92.8% were taken down within 24 hours of being posted.
More Enforcement on TikTok LIVE
TikTok also stepped up enforcement on its LIVE feature, suspending 120,000 LIVE sessions in Nigeria for violating community guidelines. The figure marks a significant increase from the previous quarter, reflecting the platform’s continued efforts to tackle misuse of its livestreaming service.
Globally, TikTok carried out more than 58 million LIVE enforcement actions during the quarter, including suspending over 50 million LIVE sessions and issuing warnings or demonetization penalties to millions of creators.
AI Detection Plays a Bigger Role
The company is increasingly relying on artificial intelligence to identify harmful, misleading, and spam content. TikTok said it is testing improved systems that can detect accounts dedicated to publishing AI-generated spam and automatically remove violating content.
To improve transparency, TikTok has now labeled more than 3 billion AI-generated videos using creator disclosures, content credentials, and invisible watermarking technology. The company says these measures help users identify content that was created or significantly edited using AI.
Investing in AI Literacy
Beyond content moderation, TikTok says it is investing in responsible AI education. The company has committed over $4 million to its AI Literacy Fund and is working with organizations, including Nigeria’s Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) and Paradigm Initiative, to promote AI awareness and responsible use. These initiatives have collectively reached more than 200 million views.
TikTok says it remains focused on making the platform safer through a combination of AI-powered moderation, creator education, and partnerships that encourage responsible digital content creation.
